DATA4PT provides tailor-made training on SIRI to Swiss Operator T-L

We are happy to announce that the DATA4PT Experts’ Team has successfully completed a training to Swiss operator T-L (Transports publics de la région lausannoise).

The training focused on SIRI and provided a complete overview of the standard, including examples of implementations.

The training gathered 15 people from Switzerland’s public transport sector: T-L (Lausanne), TPG (Transports publics genevois), TPF (Transports publics Fribourgeois), and SBB (rail). Attendees were impressed by the scope, quality and level of detail of the content shared during the two days.

The training was carried out after a request by T-L addressed to DATA4PT team, in the framework of the sustainable business model of technical support that DATA4PT proposes during and after the end of the project. The training was provided in French and adjusted to participants’ specific needs. Outcome of the training will further feed the DATA4PT training programme.

Mathias Delorme, IT Project Manager at T-L, shared his experience of the training: “The public transport of Lausanne (tl) are currently willing to standardize all their data exchanges of real time data. Using a widely accepted standard was a must for us, and we quickly focused on SIRI / Transmodel. However, we had no knowledge of these standards, which are currently rarely used in Switzerland. Therefore, we contacted DATA4PT, which proposed us a two-day training in which it would present us with the global context and giving us all the necessary entry points to search for more information.

Concretely, the questions addressed were ‘What are Transmodel, SIRI and Netex? What is a SIRI Profile and why is it necessary? What are the main SIRI Services, and what are they used for? How to make a real architecture and implementation from these standards?

Christophe, our trainer, clearly exceeded our expectations: he was able to give the high level overview of both the IT and business sides of this topic, but also to explain very specific details. We now have a good base documentation, and enough understanding of the main concepts to search for more information if needed. Of course, after two days, we still aren’t experts, and we will ask DATA4PT to continue supporting us in the coming months.

Concretely, this training will help us implementing following interfaces this year in Lausanne :

  • SIRI ET/PT export of real-time data to the Swiss national real-time PT-platform.
  • APIs used to feed the apps, websites and all terminals  displaying passing times, incidents, itineraries.
